Story Behind The Song
I dreamt I was the daughter of an ancient fisherman and wrote this song about the wonderful dream. At the time I was just becoming immersed in the music and folklore of Ireland. Somehow, those images made their way into this beautiful, majical dream.

Lyrics
FISHERMAN?S DAUGHTER
Beth Mullaney © 2003
As the sun starts to set on the water, and I?ve picked up my old mandolin
I can say I?m the fisherman?s daughter, I can say I?m the old fisherman
And it won?t hurt me none for the dreaming
For I?ll sing it once more and again
It?s the way of the Irish before me
It?s the way of the old fishermen
CHORUS:
And I?ll sing the songs they sang before me
Feel the way they felt back then
Proud to be the Fisherman?s Daughter
Proud to be the old fisherman
And I?ll dance the jigs and reels with fever
Play the whistle and mandolin
Proud to be the Fisherman?s Daughter
Proud to be the old fisherman
As the leprechauns dance by the ocean and the Natterjack toad walks in
Well the Irish hearts fill with emotion, even those of the old fishermen
And the limericks are flowing like Guinness
And the blarney is flowing like rain
No it won?t hurt me none for the dreaming
For I?ll sing it once more and again
And I?ll sing the songs they sang before me
Feel the way they felt back then
Proud to be the fisherman?s daughter
Proud to be the old fisherman
And I?ll dance the jigs and reels with fever
Play the whistle and mandolin
Proud to be the Fisherman?s Daughter
Proud to be the old fisherman
Yes I?m proud to be the Fisherman?s Daughter
Proud to be the old fisherman
