A Man Ain't Supposed To Cry re-produced 2024

Story Behind The Song

D.R.'s son was crying all night long as a baby. He finally went to sleep. D.R. was getting ready for work and was shaving when he could hear his son start to cry again. He looked at himself in the mirror and thought "a man ain't supposed to cry". The song idea came. He started singing and shaving while his son continued to cry. Driving to work he came up with more ideas singing in the truck. By the time he got to work, A Man Ain't Supposed To Cry was complete. Inspired by his crying son and written in about an hour.

Lyrics

Verse:
I was only eight years old; just an ordinary kid. I came home crying over something someone did. Daddy ran his fingers through my hair Then sat beside me in that big ole chair; and he said:

Chorus: A man aint supposed to cry Supposed to keep it deep inside It's an unwritten rule, but everybody knows it A man aint supposed to cry Supposed to hold his head up high Full of strength and full of pride; and not show it A man aint supposed to cry.

Verse: Daddy he was strong; to the day he passed away A soldier's burial. Big guns; a big parade And as his friends and family gathered round The tears began to fall, but I stood proud. Because:

Chorus

Bridge: And now girl you say you're leavin What's that on my face? It must be some mistake. Because:

Chorus
