Story Behind The Song
Do you remember when the U.S. "stole" our Hockey Night in Canada theme song in 2008? (Okay, okay. CBC lost the rights to the original theme song to TSN.)
The upshot was that CBC had a contest for a new theme song. They received almost 15,000 entries, if you can believe it. Can you imagine the poor folks who had to listen to all those?
Mine was one of those entries, with "Face Off" squeaking in just before the deadline. I had delayed the final scoring and sequencing until I had finished my week on percussion (Orchestration I, Berklee Online). Clearly, "Face Off" never even got listened to, as the winning song was announced before a game shortly thereafter, with the winner (Colin Oberst, with "Canadian Gold," and the 13-year-old runner-up from Toronto) present for the announcement.
I love this song! Every time I play it, my brain follows with "Welcome to Hockey Night in Canada!" What do you think?
