I was in Philadelphia and,on my way to sound check, had walked past this woman who was living on the corner of an alleyway. On the way back to my hotel, as I passed she said "I could love somebody!" She repeated it several times.

Lyrics
Martha
words & music: Ann Reed
She is living in a world
Where things are pretty but the people are not
All the lights spin & dance through the city
Magic on, magic off
I could love somebody She will tell you if you ask
Timing is everything
She is sitting in a place
Where the grates are littered with disposable souls
Been a while since anything fit her
Like a glove or a coat
How did you get here? Is the question they won't ask
Timing is everything
She said: I turned right I shoulda veered left
At the red light I went straight ahead
The dream changed I got to the top
Freezing rain & I could not stop
She is talking to a friend
Who is renting room in the back of her mind
She never said she was talking to you
You can keep passing by
Crazy didn't happen overnight just so you know
Timing is everything.
She said: I turned right, I shoulda veered left
At the red light I went straight ahead
The dream changed, I got to the top
Freezing rain & I could not stop
You turn right, coulda veered left
At the red light you move straight ahead
Switch lanes, lose speed
Dreams change from want to need
She is living in a world
Where things are pretty but the people are not
Click and shuffle rhythm of the living
Past her alleyway haunt
I am in here somewhere She will tell you if you ask
Timing is everything.
