Lyrics
THE PAINTING
He stepped into the lobby with the gun in his hand
he pointed at the guard and said
give it to me man
with shaky hands the guard removed
the painting from the wall
and in a flash the man was gone
before the police were called
He wrapped the picture up in a dirty linen shirt
and headed towards the airport
for his flight into New York.
with all the best intentions
you wanted to be good
but life often does not end up
the way you hoped it would
Its a dark and dirty deed
to be workin for the man
but when you're in too deep to leave
you gotta do the best you can
and if you make it out alive
when the day is done
then you celebrate with a shot of rye
here's to the setting sun
He stepped into the office with the painting in his hand
took it from the linen shirt and said
wheres my money man
with a steady hand the man removed
a pistol from the drawer
and said job well done but I'm sorry son
you don't work here anymore
He took a shot and hit his mark
and watched the poor man fall
then he hung the stolen painting on the wall
with all the best intentions
you wanted to be good
but life often does not end up
the way you hoped it would
Its a dark and dirty deed
to be workin for the man
but when you're in too deep to leave
you gotta do the best you can
and if you make it out alive
when the day is done
then you celebrate with a shot of rye
here's to the setting sun
