Story Behind The Song
Tried to paint a picture of the thoughts my brother-in-law was having and the future he was facing.
Song Description
My nephew drowned when his canoe overturned and trapped him in creek water at a man-made dam. He was paddling back to his fathers' house when the canoe overturned. He was revived- heart started beating again, but his brain had been deprived of oxygen for too long. He was put on life support in hopes he would recover, but that didn't happen. Time came when the doctors said there had been no brain activity for 3 days. My other brother in law said it was time to give him back to God. My nephews' dad (brother-in-law) gave permission to take away the life support and he died, leaving behind a son and his fiancé.

Lyrics
Verse1
Sweet son I'm sittin here all alone
I know you're not comin home
The only things left are memories
Pictures of you and me
Boy to man it happened so fast
In between the cameras' flash
I had a son
One I dearly loved
Never thought this day would come
A day I'll never forget
Run down to a waters' edge
Watch them try to save my son
Chorus:
But fate took you from me
In our favorite creek
When they said you died
I knelt down and cried
An empty room echoes the truth
I'm alone I can't hold you
Time don't heal the hurt
So I wrote these words
Verse 2
Preacher read the 23rd psalm
Said your spirit lives on
Hope we'll meet again
Please watch over me 'till then
Today I stand in that creek
Place where you left me
Watch your ashes float away
Lift a drink look around and say
Chorus
Fate took you from me
Here in our favorite creek
When they said you died
I knelt down and cried
An empty room echoes the truth
I'm alone I can't hold you
Time don't heal the hurt
So I wrote these words
