Story Behind The Song
I grew up in Muscle Shoals Alabama when all of the major recording acts were coming there for the Muscle Shoals Sound. It was a very small town and everyone knew me and my family's business.

Lyrics
Muscle Shoals
Written by: Roger Anthony Mapes
Way down in North Alabama along the river Tennessee. There lies a sleepy little town that still haunts me in my dreams...Muscle Shoals.
vs 1. Muscle Shoals had a music scene that attracted many stars. From Lynrd Skynrd to Bob Dylan-The Rolling Stones to Aretha. Thats where I learned to sing and play guitar-in a gospel bluegrass band. I knew one day I would be a star because God had a plan.
bridge: And I learned how to dream big -don't cha know that the South will rise again. ..and I learned how to be a good boy and take Jesus by the hand..in Muscle Shoals...
chorus: Muscle Shoals Alabama-the Hit Recording Capital of the World!
vs 2. I was a lonely boy in Muscle Shoals-it wasn't easy. Ya know I tried to hide my differences-forbidden feelings, but everybody knew what I was -without my saying...and the onslaught or ridicule was devastating.
bridge: And I wish that I could've chewed my tongue off to the nub...better that than the taste of my humiliation..in Muscle Shoals...
chorus: Muscle Shoals Alabama-the Hit Recording Capital of the World!
vs 3. My Daddy died and the family moved on away from Muscle Shoals..to North Carolina and to Florida..we lost the family home...but it ain't over till the fat girl sings. thats why some day I'll go back home. Just to sit by my Daddy;s grave and sing my sweetest song.
bridge: Cause he taught me to dream big -don't cha know that the South will rise again. ..and he taught me to be a good boy and take Daddy by the hand..in Muscle Shoals...
chorus: Muscle Shoals Alabama-the Hit Recording Capital of the World!
