Honky Tonk Vacation

Story Behind The Song

I had this song professionally produced in 2023 by a Nashville studio. I had nothing to do with the production, vocals or instrumentation. I wrote the lyrics and music, and am the sole songwriter. The title just popped into my head one day and has morphed into what it is today over many years and rewrites. There are a few songs out there with the same title. I had to change one of the original lines in my song because one of the other songs that was written before mine had a line that matched one in my song exactly. I had never heard of, nor did I have any knowledge of the other songs before I wrote the first version of this song. This is just a work of fiction for me and it's meant to be a fun, party atmosphere type of song.

Lyrics

Verse 1
My wife she left me just the other day
Told me she never loved me anyway
She said "I'm gonna leave you while the leavin' is still good"
Just like I always knew that woman would

1st chorus
Looks like I need a honky tonk vacation
Sounds good to me given my poor situation
The one thing I can do
To improve my point of view
Is take a good hard-drinkin' honky tonk vacation

Verse 2
I hate this job 'cause it ain't any fun
The boss man's always got me on the run
I do my best to keep up but as far as I can see
It won't take long to make a wreck of me

2nd chorus
Looks like I need a honky tonk vacation
Sounds good to me given my poor situation
The one thing I can do
To improve my point of view
Is take a good hard-drinkin' honky tonk vacation

Instrumental break

Bridge
Well I can't unwind
I'm gonna lose my mind
I'm about fit to be tied
Gotta get away
Gonna leave today
And find a place to hide

Verse 3
Now things ain't looking up by any means
It's all coming unraveled at the seams
I need to change direction maybe try to shift some gears
I think it's time that I get out of here

3rd chorus
Looks like I need a honky tonk vacation
Sounds good to me given my poor situation
The one thing I can do
To improve my point of view
Is take a good hard-drinkin' honky tonk vacation
Just one good week or two
Should enhance my point of view
I need a good hard-drinkin' honky tonk vacation
