Richest Things

Story Behind The Song

My husband and I were experiencing a poverty stricken patch in life, and a friend gave us a weekend in her family condo in Dillon Colorado just to get away. It overlooks a large reservoir, encircled by mountains and sky. We walked around a portion of the lake in the brisk breezes, and my husband cracked a couple well-timed jokes that completely shifted my mood from feeling utterly trapped, to being completely grateful and free. We ate cheap spaghetti for dinner. That night we were laying on the porch looking up at the bright stars in the night, and again a feeling of being forever grateful for my husband came over me. My husband said to me, "Honey, I could live in a tent with you and be happy." That's all I needed to know.

Lyrics

One moment can become the greatest gift when it's the right time;
And one setting is the best seat in the house at sunrise.
The richest things in life are free, the richest things in life are free!

One silly joke can be a paradigm shift when you most need it,
and one love, just one, can fill up your cup completely.
The richest things in life are free, the richest things in life are free!

Free, free... free...
