Please Don't Tell Me (what to do)

Story Behind The Song

Many men find that their wives or girlfriends take it upon themselves to give them unsolicited directions when they are driving. Men rarely do this, for some reason. This song pretty much wrote itself when I started on it.

Song Description

A man asking his significant other to refrain from a number of annoying activities.

Lyrics

Please Don't Tell Me

Please don't tell me what to do,
And don't tell me what to say,
Before we met I got along fine,
Without your help every day.
So let's just be lovers and
Enjoy each other every day
Yes, let's just be lovers and
Do things our own way.

Please don't tell me how to drive
Or which is the quickest way,
I've lived here since I was sixteen
And I can always find my way.
So let's just be lovers and
Enjoy each other every day
Yes, let's just be lovers and
Do things our own way.

Please don't tell me when to speak up
Or when to hold my piece.
I've been talkin' my whole life
And I know when to speak.
So let's just be lovers and
Enjoy each other every day
Yes, let's just be lovers and
Do things our own way.

When I get goin' please don't tell me
You've heard that story before,
Some folks might not have heard it
And it's OK to tell it once more.
So let's just be lovers and
Enjoy each other every day
Yes, let's just be lovers and
Do things our own way.

So let's just be lovers and
Enjoy each other every day
Yes, let's just be lovers and
Do things our own way.

Very witty, melodic and top-tapping piece. Really cool arrangement. Love the guitar work, and the keyboards sound good as well.

A very straightforward tune that gets you tapping your toes. Nice guitar work for sure, fits song nicely. Good lyric.

This song put a smile on my face from bar one! It's all about a relationship between 2 people that's saying: Don't tell me what to do! Let's just be lovers. But the humor is what is so fun and cool. I love the specifics covered in the verses. Driving, speaking, telling stories, directions...it's all so relevant and real. This song is very well written. The singer did a great job. Every word of the lyrics is understandable. The instrumentation is excellent. Love the guitar riffs in the break.

very clean sound. good lyrics that people can learn easy

Nice easy blues. good engeneering and mix tasty licks!

I really like the introduction and how the guitar, piano and drums set in the mix. Great vocals and cool lead guitar.

Competently put together, professional sounding track with a great arrangement and balance between instrumentation and vocal.

Sounds very tight. It's lots of fun, can't fault it musically or lyrically.
