Story Behind The Song
Mid 2012, I was working for a corporate dental chain. The dress code in our office was business-casual, even though we had no contact with clients, or other business professionals. Even so, men had to wear slacks and a dress shirt, but women seemed to wear whatever they want.
Anyway, I history of rebellion and one day, I decided to wear a neck tie in a small protest to how ridiculous it was to ask us to wear nice clothes on the small salaries we were being provided. That day, I received a lot attention, good vibes from women, and cold stares from management. People commented freely. Some people said that I just looked nice while others assumed more at work, saying things like "Someone had an interview this morning!...Who's hiring?..." Indeed, they were right. There was something else at work, but it wasn't they thought.
I proceeded to wear a different tie every day for the remainder of the week, and even carried on for the week after until, finally, I wrote this song about it.
The lyrics praise the tie and describe what it represents in different situations. In the end, I reveal that my tie is not a symbol of conformity, rather, a statement of defiance, aimed at management and social norms. Here inlies the irony.

Lyrics
My Tie, my tie
So many faces you imply
When I pull you tight
I look just like the scholar type
When I loosen up my collar
You lay back like happy hour
Yielded for the close encounter
The bearer you empower
I feel your power
My tie, my tie
You make me feel so good inside
Warm me up like apple pie
While showcasing my cooler side
In my youth, you made me feel like
just another number
But soon I had my choice and I discovered
A power like no other
Cotton, silk, or semi-dry
Ascot, bowed, or oversized
Long and skinny, short and wide
So many different kinds
One for every kind of guy
My tie, My tie
The star of my disguise
I'd be a fool to deny
Success do you defy
I hereby decry
That I'll never say goodbye
My tie, my tie
I bid never untie my tie
