Lyrics

The Safety Rap
By Jillian Boldway and Brock Cunningham

The first way to play it safe is to stay away from fires
Telephone poles and electrical wires
Fire is dangerous, just leave it alone
Have the fire station's number right by the phone
In emergencies you must know the rules
Make sure to practice fire drills at school
And don't play with lighters, don't play with matches
It's not a game, see, and that's what the catch is
When you're in the kitchen keep away from the stove
Don't go near the oven cause I'm telling you so
It's hot, that's not a lot to remember
Staying away is your number one defender
Against any harm to come or any harm to others
Pass the word, tell your sisters and brothers
It's the right thing to do, you know it from your heart
So, stay away from fire and play it smart

I'm back again, explaining the matter
Of poison, a very dangerous hazard
I'm not here to scare you, I'm here to prepare you
About the damage that poison can do
So, listen hard stay away from drawers
Tell Mom to keep poisons locked behind doors
The taste is just plain awful
So stay smart and keep your mind thoughtful
About what can happen, it could be a tragedy
It's not for kids and that's how it has to be
And don't go playing in the medicine cabinet
Pills and razors are very hazardous
They're harmful if you abuse them
Your parents can show you the right way to use them
Now don't be mad, be glad and smile
Cause you know your life is worthwhile

Safety, for rule number three
Is to watch out for cars when crossing the street
Use caution, always look both ways
And stay away from strangers, listen to what I say
Red is for stop and green is for go
This is something that everybody should know
Use the cross walk, obey the stop light
If you're out at night make sure your clothes are bright
And also, watch out when you're playing
A game of baseball or roller skating
On a skateboard, or pedaling your bike
I'm hear to tell you, you gotta look twice
So go to the park or to the playground
Or in the yard where it's safe and sound
Where no one gets hurt and it's just plain fun
Play it safe and now my rhyme is done
