Story Behind The Song
Growing up in Logansport, Indiana, I was just another kid on the block until I discovered the guitar. Then I carried it everywhere and found others who felt the same way about their instruments. We'd get together wherever we could (even on the street corner) and jam. There were very few African-Americans in our town then but I was drawn to the music they were listening to. Like it says in the song - we didn't think about race or creed or anything else but the music and it was the most innocent, wonderful time in my life. I hope that is evident from the words and the music - thanks so much to my producer, Bill Bentley, who perfectly captured that street corner innocence.

																Lyrics

V1: I was the only white girl in the room
I was just listening to the tunes
It filled my heart with love and joy
I couldn't wait to sing along
       Memorizing every word
       In every single song
V2: All the cool kids on the block
They wanted soul and they wanted rock
We put them together - loved them together
       Everybody sang - everybody sing!
Cho: Standing on the corner strumming my guitar
Cars whizzing by adding to the beat
People clap and dance 'cause we sing so loud
White girl playing on the street
V3: Driving back to the neighborhood
Don't feel bad but I don't feel good
Now the house is gone, the world has changed
I close my eyes 'cause it looks so strange
Cho:
Tag: Clap your hands, sing a song
On the street, playing on the street
Oh, yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
