He Restoreth My Soul

Story Behind The Song

I first heard this song when Lynn Anderson was the guest singer at the church where my father was the minister. I fell in love with it and remembered it all these years. When I was recording new material for "In the Presence of Grace," I tried to locate the composer but came up empty-handed. So I listed it as "traditional." Bill Bentley arranged some awesome background vocals and I just love his basso profundo.

Lyrics

He Restoreth My Soul

V1: The Lord is my shepherd - I need Him
Though weary and torn by the way
His oil is a balm for my healing
His rod and His staff are my stay
By cool waters flowing He leads me
And there I rest in His care
In green pastures growing He feeds me
And nothing, nothing can trouble me there

Cho: He restoreth my soul when I'm weary
His healing touch, that gentle touch makes me whole
Though sorrow and pain all around me
His love restoreth my soul

V2: His goodness and mercy are with me
They follow me all my life through
And with joy I can face each tomorrow
For His presence will be there with me too
