The musical opening/intro of "Just Fine" lays down an infectious, poppy/alt/retro-rock groove that's feel good out of the gate. The first lyric that J-HE! sings is "When I was a kid, I really wanted to die." This musical/lyrical marriage sets up a contradiction that on the one hand is thorny and challenging for the listener to absorb. And on the other hand, I think this is exactly what J-HE! intends and successfully achieves: to send the message that our mental health can be a struggle, but also that we can manage and overcome challenges with a resilient, optimistic attitude... and possibly with the help that can come from being honest about the struggle. Overall, a promising delivery of a very difficult subject that J-He! handles nicely with the conviction and strength that the song and subject require. Rock on!
