									Money Train
© 2008 T. LaFlesh
I didn't always live this way, not so long ago
I was a hard-workin' boy, with dreams of my own
But I was livin' in a shack, with just the clothes on my back and nothin' more.
Then everything changed, one day that money train went by
Goin' just a little bit too fast, a minute later, heard the crash
On that big turn just about a half a mile down the line from my old shack
So I ran down to see if there was somethin' I could do
But the engineer was dead, and I guess the brakeman too
Through the smoke and the haze, my eyes could not believe that it was true,
But it's no lie . . . .
There was gold on the hillside, money floatin' in the creek,
Somebody's gonna hafta clean this up, I thought it might as well be me
I had a pocket full of cash, gold nuggets in a sack
When off in the east I heard a thunderin' crack. . .
The sheriff and his men, not a smile on his face
"Robbin' trains ain't something we take kindly in this place,
I hate to say it, boy, you're goin' down in disgrace!"
LEAD BREAK
Took me down to the courthouse, trial lasted just a week,
The jury found me guilty, but the judged, he disagreed
I don't think you killed nobody, tell you what I'm gonna do
Just gonna give you ten to twenty, cause the law says I have to.
Fourteen years, I spent workin' in the yard, breakin' rocks up for new railbeds, and bakin' in the sun
I turned thirty-fvive the day they finally made me a free man
I went back to my old shack, cause that's where it all began
There was gold on the hillside, money floatin' in the creek,
Somebody's gonna hafta clean this up, I thought it might as well be me
What the sheriff didn't know, when he made them charges stick
Was that I had one load already, I was on my second trip
There was gold on the hillside, money floatin' in the creek,
Somebody's gonna hafta clean this up, I thought it might as well be me
I burned down my old shck, found a place out by the lake
Now I'm fishin'everyday and countin' money by the stack
There was gold on the hillside, money floatin' in the creek . . . . ..
