Lyrics
One-Track Mind (Secular Version)
Verse 1
Grandpa let me ride in his engineer's seat.
The Southern Track passing beneath
With me on his knee and his eyes on the rail,
he taught me something I learned well.
Chorus:
He said, The best engineers don't have a one-track mind.
You've got to think of others sometimes.
You'll be crossing paths with ladies 'till the end of time
so think ahead of what you'll leave behind."
Verse 2
Drivin' that train Grandpa learned about livin'.
The lessons he learned had to do with givin'.
Grandpa's life was like that railway line.
He loved Grandma and it turned out fine.
Chorus:
He said, The best engineers don't have a one-track mind.
You've got to think of others sometimes.
You'll be crossing paths with ladies 'till the end of time
so think ahead of what you'll leave behind."
Bridge:
One track mind.
Don't lose track of what you've left behind.
One track mind.
Stay on track and be fine.
Verse 3
Now I'm grown up sittin' in that engineer's seat.
The Southern track rushin' beneath.
With my eyes on the rail and my son on my knee,
I'm teachin' Grandpa's lessons like he did to me.
Chorus:
He said, The best engineers don't have a one-track mind.
You've got to think of others sometimes.
You'll be crossing paths with ladies 'till the end of time
so think ahead of what you'll leave behind."
