The buckie bronco

Story Behind The Song

A tale of a hard drinking youth.

Song Description

Buckfast wine........ Its a sub-culture unto itself. The favorite drink of many a young Scot. I once worked with a young man who had a "taste" for the Buckie. His calendar revolved around the weekend, when he would leave his job on a Friday and plough into the stuff , among other pleasures of youth, with abandon, returning to the job on Monday in a state worse than Hiroshima, lurching around while he literally shook off its effects during the week. I nicknamed him the Buckie bronco for that reason. The song was originally published on my first CD, "The road to destiny" in 1999. This version was re-recorded in 2019. It's a long-time favorite with crowds at my live shows. I've been promising a re-visit. Here it is.

THE BUCKIE BRONCO
© Duncan McLauchlan 1999 (lyrics, music and arrangement updated 2020)

Monday morning, wake-up time, a lost weekend left way behind.
The weekly struggle begins again, I'm never gonna drink that much Buckie again, Oh no.

Friday night must've been a blast, tried to beat The Buckie but came in last,
Saturday night must've been alright, but I can't remember cos I was steamin' again.

CHORUS. 1
Must've had a good time, must've had a blast,
I wish I could remember the dark and hazy past
I drank Whisky and beer, smoked some grass.
Now I'm lying here on my arse again.

Sunday morning thought I would die, couldn't even look myself in the eye.
Didn't wanna get up out of my bed, the body's alive but I'm brain dead again.

CHORUS 2.
Must've had a good time, must've had a blast,
I wish I could remember the dark and hazy past.
I drank Whisky and beer, smoked some grass.
Now I'm lying here on my arse again.
Ch 2 b
Monday's bad, Tuesday's even worse,
Wednesday, half-way, I don't feel so bad.
Thursday, almost there, another one to go,
Thank God it's Friday, now here I go again,
And again, and again

CHORUS 3
Must've had a good time, must've had a blast,
I wish I could remember the dark and hazy past.
I drank Whisky and beer, smoked some grass.
Now I'm lying here on my arse again

CHORUS 3 b,
Monday's bad, Tuesday's even worse,
Wednesday, half-way, I don't feel so bad.
Thursday, almost there, another one to go.
Thank God it's Friday, now here I go again,
And again, and again,

I'm gonna ride the Buckie Bronco again,
I'm gonna ride the Buckie Bronco again and again,
I'm gonna ride the Buckie Bronco again and again and again,
I'm gonna ride the Buckie Bronco again and again and again and again,

I'm gonna ride the Buckie Bronco again.
