Thirteenth Floor

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song while I was attending college in NY. At the top floor of my dorm, there was a common area where we would often play guitar and gather with friends. This common area was located on the 13th floor and had spectacular skyline views through large windows. It was here that I drew the inspiration for "Thirteenth Floor". The image of a young distraught man fighting with his inner self in a world where he is not only alone but unnoticed. The ultimate act to get "revenge" on a world that has turned its back on him...the ultimate way to get attention and become someone; A very public and dramatic suicide 'for all the world to see'

Song Description

Thirteenth Floor is about a young man who is struggling with the uncertainties and frustrations of his Life. These everyday frustrations and worries are completely overwhelming to the point where he contemplates a public suicide as the answer. Throughout the song, there are slight moments of excitement as this young man's focus is not on his demise, but rather the adrenaline rush he will get from 'flying to his eternity'...and the aftermath that he will leave behind for the world to see.

Lyrics

"Thirteenth Floor"

Sitting in my living room
I have no place to go,
So many things I haven't seen
I'm living in this fantasy,

I wanna fly...to my Eternity
That's where I wanna be,
I wanna fly...for all the world to see
Just what they've done to me

I wake up to the sound of you
This buzzing in my head,
Life's a hole I dug myself (have no place to go)
I'm dreaming of the End,

I walk out of my living room
And to the 13th Floor,
Suddenly it's clear to me
The Life I had's no more,

I wanna fly...to my Eternity
That's where I wanna be,
I wanna fly...for all the world to see
Just what they've done to me
