Story Behind The Song
I Grew up in Tampa Bay area, My first band, The Tropics, practiced on the beach at the Surfers Club. Played there two. Beach week was always the best vacation from high school!
later, went to Los Angeles with Tom Petty, after living there for a few years, I began to experience earth quakes. the one that knocked me down, I thought I was gonna die! was the Northridge earth quake 1994. Out of that emotional experience came this song, "Carry me back to St. Petersburg"

Lyrics
1. Carry me back to St. Petersburg oh I've drifted so far away
I've got to go back where I'm from just to see where I am today
I really loved those white sandy beaches
when I was just a young boy
I wish I could tell you just how I feel
Won't somebody show me the way
back to the shores of sweet Tampa Bay
2. Thinkin' about those golden dreams
that I had whan I was back there
I really had some plans and schemes
and God knows I had a prayer
You can pretend to see the light
lookin' through your glass window
but if you travel in the night
you'll wonder where did time go
Yes you wonder wher did time go?
Carry me back, carry me back carry me back
to my home
Carry me back, carry me back, carry me back
Solo
3. Carry me back to St. Petersburg oh I've drifted so far away
I've got to go back where I'm from just to see where I am today
I really loved those white sandy beaches
when I was just a young boy
I wish I could tell you just how I feel
Won't somebody show me the way
back to the shores of sweet Tampa Bay
Carry me back, carry me back carry me back
to my home
Carry me back, carry me back, carry me back
repeat
