Story Behind The Song
The idea for "No Map" started with the little green truck on our GPS. He never seems to be pointing where we want to go, and I thought that pretty much described my quest for love.
Movies show us what love should look like, and social media is full of everyone's best moments. I've read the self-help books and heard the advice, but knowing the theory isn't the same as having a real example to follow. I know what I don't want. I'm still figuring out the rest.
I wanted to have some fun with that feeling. We can get directions almost anywhere, but we still have to discover love for ourselves. That became the heart of the song: putting down the map and giving two people a chance to see where it goes.
I didn't originally plan to do much with "No Map," but my nine-year-old loved it so much that I decided to share it.
Song Description
"No Map" is a fun, upbeat alternative rock song about trying to understand love when you've had plenty of advice but no real example to follow. You can read the books, learn the warning signs, and know exactly what you don't want. Figuring out the rest takes living it.
The song has a little humor in that search. There's a blinking green truck, a world full of GPS, and AI available for questions at three in the morning. Still, none of them can tell you what love should feel like to you.
Underneath it all is hope and a willingness to try. "No Map" is about letting go of what everyone says love should look like and giving two people room to find out for themselves. Just you and I, seeing where it goes this time.

Lyrics
I've heard all the advice
I've read the self-help books
But I've never had an example
just some theories left to prove
They gave me books
they gave me maps
they told me what love should look like
But nobody ever showed me the same
I learned love secondhand
from stories that were never mine
Now I'm trying to figure out
what it looks like in real life
I know what I don't want
that's the first book on my shelf
They gave me words and warning signs
but I've got to learn the rest myself
There's no map for this
no north, no south
My little green truck keeps blinking
but it can't help me out
I live in a world of GPS
and still don't know which way to go
Maybe love is something
I get to name my own
Not a riddle I keep solving
just to find my way home
I can ask AI for answers
I can search until three
But no machine can tell me
what love should feel like to me
I just want you and I
on the road less traveled by
See where it leads, see what we find
maybe find what Frost had in mind
I want to throw out the map
and wade into the waterfall
Forget everything they told me
and just learn to love it all
There's no map for this
no north, no south
My little green truck keeps blinking
but it can't help me out
I live in a world of GPS
and still don't know which way to go
Maybe love is something
I get to name my own
Not a riddle I keep solving
just to find my way home
Maybe that's where this needs to start
Not in a book
Not in a chart
Not in someone else's picture
of what you and I should be
I've got the theory
I've got the hope
I've got every wrong turn behind me
Love, I'm out there looking
Are you looking here for me?
There's no map for this
no north, no south
My little green truck keeps blinking
but it can't help me out
Maybe love is something
I get to name my own
Not a riddle I keep solving
just to find my way home
No map for this
Just you and I
See where it goes
this time
