Story Behind The Song
Growing up in a town where being gay was not a desirable sexuality. Very much so you were treated differently at school, at church, and in your own home. As an adult I have experienced several places where that is still the same. What I like to think about most is how we go from all being "children of God" to adults that murder or make laws against those same "children of God." There is something very troubling about the way we treat those who are different.
Song Description
A civil rights song about overcoming the persecution of the church and of your peers, and of those who would like to see you dead for your "sins." There is something very troubling about how the our fight as LGBT people gets pushed forward and then pushed back again. Children are told they are all "God's children," but what does that mean? Often times I think that myths and legends echo more truth than the Bible does. Not saying one is right over another, but when one associate's hate towards another person that is not doing God's work. Taking away someone's right to love or to be equal to another man is still a common occurrence in today's world. Does that hate come from religion or from man?

Lyrics
I, I really wanna live my life
But you're taking me to my execution
My execution
And I, I'm gonna put up a fight
While you're burning me with your
Persecution, your persecution
Chorus:
If I could fly, If I could fly
I'd soar, I'd soar
And burn so bright
Like a phoenix
If I could fly
If I could fly
I'd rise from pain
Like a Phoenix from the flames
You, you can drag me down to hell
With your hateful words, from your institution
Your institution
And I, I don't have to fear your words
While you're drowning me in your absolution,
Your Absolution
(CHORUS)
Bridge:
I'll stick with myths and legends
'Cause they've never lied to me
No they don't tell lies to me
Sweet fantasy
The way you tell your lies
While you crucify
You lie, lie
Underneath your God
The way you preach his name
And yet you do the same
You lie, lie
To your only God
(CHORUS)
Fly away
fly away
Won't you Fly away... Fly away
Fly
