Dellilah's Lament

Story Behind The Song

There are a lot of Biblical tales in which one of the characters never gets to tell their story. I decided it was my job to be their voice.

Song Description

This is the story of Samson and Delilah, told from Delilah's point of view. She makes no excuses, just tells it the way she sees it.

Lyrics

DELILAH'S LAMENT
He was a pious man
He was a brute
And he could best any man in a fight.
He paid for my favors
Cuz he had to
I was Delilah, woman of the night.

Something about the man drew me
It wasn't love but I pulled him to me
He was company while I waited for the real thing
But it got -- complicated.

I took him as my lover
Afraid to refuse
And a girl gets tired of being alone.
But he had enemies
Who wanted to use me
So I knew I was living in a danger zone

Something about the man drew me
It wasn't love but I pulled him to me
He was company while I waited for the real thing
But it got -- complicated.

No one asked me why I did it
They all thought they knew
Here's the truth just between you and me
I only took the money
Cuz it meant that I was free.

I didn't believe him
Three times he had lied
The night he told me about cutting his hair
It sounded silly
So imagine my surprise
Now it's too late to decide that I cared.

Something about the man drew me
It wasn't love but I pulled him to me
He was company while I waited for the real thing
But it got -- complicated.

Now I've no company and no hope of the real thing.....
