About Me
Originally from North Carolina, I've lived in New York City for the past 26 years. I've loved this city from the first time I set foot in it, and I cannot imagine living anywhere else. It really is the center of the known universe - at least for me.
I'm a musician - multi-instrumentalist, composer, studio rat - and a bit of a technology geek. I've spent many years honing my multifaceted craft and even spent a couple of those teaching technology for Apple. My curiosity knows no bounds and I love the pursuit of knowledge and mastery for its own sake. Getting paid sure helps though...
I am a huge fan of cold beer, good wine, great food, engaging books and stimulating conversation, and have been known to go well out of my way in pursuit of some combination or other of these things. My current worst bad habit is golf. It's the game that reminds me why I'm a musician and not a professional athlete. And it keeps me humble. VERY humble...
I've performed with a litany of well known as well as shockingly anonymous bands and musicians over the years. The highlights have been gigs with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, the Allman Brothers, Little Feat, Levon Helm, Mary Wilson, Bernard Purdie, Reggie Workman, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, and They Might Be Giants; right alongside dozens of others.
It's just as likely you'll find me toiling away in anonymity in the pit of a Broadway show. I've worked on and/or toured with Movin' Out, Hairspray, Grease, In the Heights, Hair, Memphis, The Rocky Horror Show and Five Guys Named Moe.
For those who care for such things, I hold a Master's degree in jazz performance from Queens College (part of City College, The City University of New York) and a Bachelor's degree in jazz & contemporary music from The New School for Social Research, New York.
My current gig is saxophonist for the soul/rock band Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes. www.southsidejohnny.com
I am proud to be a RICO Artist, a JodyJazz Mouthpieces Artist and Cannonball Saxophones Artist.
About New York Horns
New York Horns is a horn section based in New York City, started by myself and my good friend, business partner and trumpet player Chris Anderson. We've been making noise together since 1996 or so, found we had an affinity for working together and decided to make an official business of it.
Founded officially in 2000, NYH writes, arranges, produces and performs in a variety of styles and with a number of different artists. We've been featured with Ricky Byrd's New York Hit Squad, The Bernard Purdie Band, Todd Wolfe's Blues Projekt, Skin Tight, The Stingers, Nia Monet... and the list continues. And, oh yeah, we're both member of Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes!
In 1999 we released our debut EP/CD, "Tunnel Vision" and had the good sense to place it for distribution on the then-fledgling mp3.com. "Tunnel Vision" went on to be one of the most downloaded and featured projects on mp3.com, and one single, "Miles From Chicago" was 18th in overall plays for the year. We distributed (ok, gave away...) over three million copies of our tracks through mp3.com, bringing a heightened awareness of New York Horns throughout the world.
Through that exposure we were asked to write and produce for a number of situations including J Records, Beach Street Music, ABC News, CBS News, Maury Povitch, Sally Jesse Raphael, among many others. Our music has been heard on national radio and television and has been featured on many websites and webcasts.
If you need horns, from a duo to a full big band, we can provide them. Being based in New York City gives us access to the finest musicians in the world. We can write, arrange and produce tracks in our studio and we can provide full contracting services to fulfill your horn section needs. We can do all services via the web, our rates are competitive and our work is stellar.
