J.A.N.E. is an audio documentary about a prostitute who is spiraling downward into an over sexed and drug-induced haze. Sprinkled throughout the 19 tracks are a few retro public service announcements that must have been used 60 years ago to warn the youth about dangerous women like Jane, whose existence appears to only make others appreciate the fact that their own lives aren't as fucked up as some woman who has sex for money. The Cemetery Improvement Society (compose of Marc Claggett and Brad Hawes) does a thorough and disturbing job of narrating Jane's tale, and make her seem like a real person we are following on the streets, especially after perusing her accompanying "diary" (intimately written and illustrated by Jessica Knox). It's dark, slightly depressing and definitely not like anything you have heard coming from a local band. Like any good documentary, J.A.N.E. is best when consumed from start to finish, and preferably not in a car or anywhere with too many distractions. Only as a cohesive whole can this album be fully appreciated and understood. by Kat Kosiec (Dane101.com)
