YACHT HARBOUR RECORDS AND DESIRE
Yacht Harbour records is a new independent label based in Northwest Florida that features music that ranges from digital, jazz, fusion, funk, blues, acoustic, experimental, and everything in between. The label was founded in late 2009 by Kelvin Johnson, who is the executive producer of the label. He also acts as writer, arranger, studio musician, and sound engineer.
The first artists to debut on the label are the group desired f/x (no capital letters). The first single released by the label and the group is "Back to Bassics, Part One". The song is available as a "7 inch" edited single and as a "12 inch" extended remixed single that features five versions of the song. The concept and title of the group's upcoming album is "analog/digital" (no capitals). Producer Kelvin Johnson's belief is that you get the best of both worlds when you merge old school [technology] with new school.
Desired f/x is a studio collective that has been in operation for the past three decades, in various incarnations and locations around the United States. The group was originally formed in Kalamazoo, Michigan during late 1980's, with members who were not long out of high school, which came from various musically influenced backgrounds. The common denominator was a shared appreciation for funky beats. The music of Detroit (Motown), Philadelphia (Philly soul), Parliament Funkadelic, James Brown, and Los Angles (Solar) was a definite influence on group members, as was early Hip-Hop and DJ mixes out of Detroit and Chicago. The jazz sounds of Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Wes Montgomery, and Grover Washington and the blues of B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Albert King add to the group's musical mélange. The goal of Yacht Harbour and desired f/x is to bring that flavor back, while adding some new flavors to the musical soundscape.
