Mournin' Time

By Ray William Roldan

Well the wind is blowin'
through the back yard.
But the clothes on the line
are hangin' hard against
that April rain!

There's a mockin' bird
on a pepper tree limb.
He's singin' every tune
his momma taught to him
but it's all in vain!

Cause there ain't no one
cares to hear that tune,
the crops blew away in that
last monsoon,
Grand dad caught the cancer
and he left to soon

And now it's mournin' time
It's mournin' time,
It's mournin' time!

The old well gave it's
last cup of water
Reaper stole away with
the neighbors daughter,
and left him nothin'
but pain!

I tried to tune my guitar
to play an old church hymn,
One that daddy's momma
said she taught to him,
but it's all in vain.

A cause they're cryin'
to loud to hear my tune,
There's a cold wind blowin'
cross an Arizona moon,
Grand dad got the cancer
and he left to soon!

And now it's mournin' time!
It's mournin' time!
It's Mournin' time!

But we were born to
live this life,
It's a hard won freedom
often fraught with strife!
sometimes the only thing
a man can own,
are the memories of the
seeds he's sown,
the roads he's traveled
and the friends he's known,
but it all comes unraveled
when the cold winds blow!

round mournin' time!
round mournin' time!
mournin' time!!

Instrumental:

Now there's a new fold
kickin' down at grand dads
place,
put a tear in my eye
and a smile on my face!
I guess that old man
heard me prey!

The eggs are scamblin'
And the clouds are gone,
Smell of coffee at the
break of dawn!
here comes a brand new day!

And now the birds take
flight in this mournin' time!
I feel the warmth of the
light in this mournin time!
Yea! somethin' feels right
in this mournin' time!
a good mournin' time
a good mournin' time
good mournin' time!

Thank you lord!
