Story Behind The Song
Bryant Johnson states the following:
"This song began with a composition challenge of changing certain Celtic modalities to reflect a passing of time. Then it became a composition challenge to learn to use virtual instruments. AND THEN since it was all about challenges, it became a foray into long distance collaboration with Cyndi Corkran... which frankly was the best thing to happen to this body of work.... Lastly, it became a challenge just to keep DAW's functioning long enough to actually get some output. The track count got pretty 'cray' cray' and wound up having to learn how to overclock my computer just to get to a point to bounce stem mixes.... Lots of learning going on here... and that's where the fun begins, so it was an overall GREAT experience!!! Hope that comes through in the final output."
Bryant further states:
"In addition to the short description I tried to author this piece in such a way as to be able to submit the whole or parts for various Broadjam opportunities".
Song Description
Bryant Johnson asked me to collaborate on one of his pieces, and I happily accepted, feeling honored to create lyrically with him, after admiring and enjoying his other works.
We wanted to create a retro piece about the night life in Rio de Janeiro, pre-WWII, when it was one big party, night life scene, and how quickly things would change. In the chorus, "O Como Christo Redentor....", (Portuguese), brings a less maddening attempt to relocate to the peaceful beach, with The Christ of the Andes, the enigmatic statue and calm visual of Rio, as guide, then bring the piece into the contemporary feel of the present, with all its different situations, but with all the same, universal and eternal transient issues. Grab life with gusto, and in all its varied expressions, LOVE!
